Not good Joe. We used to own a lovely flat ourselves but you are at the mercy of your neighbours. If they're fine then everything's fine but if not it can be a nightmare.
I hope you get your wish in October.

They're just loud in everything they do, stomping around, music, door slamming etc - fine during the day, no problem with that, but the bloke works in a bar and gets home in the early hours, so all this is usually happening at 3am.
And as I mentioned, he's a stoner, and used to smoke it in their flat all the time, making the rest of the building stink (is a big old house built in 1850, so wasn't designed with being flats in mind) - me and one of the other neighbours asked him not to and he stood there, stinking of it, smoke still swirling around in his flat, and denied that he was. Now he goes and smokes it on the front steps, but leaves the front door open - which he did at 4.30 this morning and must have forgotten his key, because he then started banging on the door to his flat, shouting for his mrs for a good five minutes, waking everyone up again. Words have been had, unfortunately the bloke of the couple below us is just an ignorant, stoner cunt. They're the only renters out of the four flats though, their lease is up in October and the guy that owns it is moving back in (he had to rent it out while he was working in the US) - can last that out as I love where we live, bar them, and I know exactly when they're leaving. I'll be there to Nescafe wave them off

Joe C, I know that feeling. Not nice! Knock on the door and have a word (while wearing ice-jockey mask and speaking very softly)

People who sleep 6.5-7 hours a day have the longest lifespan (this excludes those who try, and fail, to get more sleep by using medication).

There is a disease where the poor unfortunate victims cannot actually sleep - ever. They stay awake for months on end, have halicinations, cannot be put into induced comas and sleeping tablets do not touch them. Their brains cannot be made to shut down, until they die.
Yes, it's real and it sounds like the worst possible thing to get, worse than even motor neurone diease and that's horrible. This diseases is about mental torture, with no release.
One of the most notable cases is that of Michael (Michel A.) Corke, a music teacher from New Lenox, Illinois (born in Watseka, Illinois). He began to have trouble sleeping before his 40th birthday in 1991; following these first signs of insomnia, his health and state of mind quickly deteriorated as his condition worsened. Eventually, sleep became completely unattainable, and he was soon admitted to University of Chicago Hospital with a misdiagnosis of clinical depression due to multiple sclerosis. Medical professionals, (Dr Raymond Roos and Dr Anthony Reder) at first unsure of the nature of his illness, initially diagnosed multiple sclerosis; in a bid to provide temporary relief in the later stages of the disease, physicians induced a coma with the use of sedatives, to no avail as his brain still failed to shut down completely. Corke died in 1993, a month after his 42nd birthday, by which time he had been completely sleep-deprived for six months
